Japanese made Tokai guitars are universally regarded to be of exceptional quality, especially ones from the late 1970s. It is widely thought that the 70/80s Reborn models surpass a lot of equivalent Les Pauls in many ways. Many aficionados believe that the Tokai guys got a lot more right about their 1950’s LP reissues than Gibson may have done in that era.
This Tokai Les Paul Reborn is the LS50 model, crafted in 1979. The build quality is excellent, the attention to detail fabulous. Every single piece of an LS50 is made in Japan – they were not assembled offshore. All the hardware is made by Gotoh - Japan. The pickups have been upgraded to Seymour Duncan JB models (Jeff Beck) – a perfect match. The feel, comfort and playability of this LS50 is outstanding.

This instrument in excellent condition. The guitar has been owned and played by a professional and has had a pro refret. This Tokai has Gibson pots and switch and also Gibson tuners. It has a sensational black maple top, the hardware has aged beautifully, and there are no structural defects. It is in its original condition apart from upgraded pickups and some player wear with a few chips & dings expected on an instrument of this age. There is a crack in the pickguard near wear it meets with the fretboard.
This LS50 plays beautifully, & sounds just great. You’d be challenged to find a late 70’s Les Paul reissue branded with a “G” that is this good for double the dollars.
