Gibson
Vintage Gibson EB-1 - USA 1969
Pickup currently unavailable
Back in the 1960s, Gibson was trying to compete with Fender's popular bass models, so they came up with the EB-1, which was quite different from the typical basses of that era. What made it stand out was its violin-shaped body, hence the name "violin bass."
The EB-1 had a solid body, unlike a violin or cello, which gave it a unique look and sound. It was designed to have a warm and mellow tone, making it perfect for certain styles of music like jazz or blues.
One of the notable features of the EB-1 was its single humbucking pickup located near the neck, which contributed to its distinctive sound. It also had a short-scale neck, which made it a bit easier to play for some bassists.
Despite its unique design and sound, the EB-1 didn't gain as much popularity as Fender's basses during its original production run. However, over the years, it has become a sought-after vintage instrument among collectors and bass enthusiasts.
This EB-1 presents in very good condition for it's age, the finish displays beautiful checking over the top, back and neck and there are few dings or dents. The pickguard has been removed and is no longer with the instrument, the original pickup is in the case and has been replaced by a lower output pickup. The thumbrest has been moved to the bass side of the strings. The support post to play the guitar 'upright' has gone missing and is no longer with the guitar.
The EB-1 is currently equipped with flatwound strings and the shorter scale provides a slightly softer attack and less tension on the strings, resulting in a smoother, more rounded sound with a touch of vintage charm.
This is a unique and rare bass guitar with tonnes of appeal and vintage vibe.
Comes in non-original HSC.
