Vintage Gibson Marauder - USA 1975
Pickup currently unavailable
The Gibson Marauder was introduced in 1975 as part of Gibson's new line of electric guitars. It featured a single-cutaway solid body made of mahogany, similar to other Gibson models. However, the Marauder had a significantly thinner body compared to other Gibson guitars.
The Marauder had a number of unconventional features that distinguished it from other Gibson models. It featured a bolt-on maple neck, which was unusual for Gibson guitars at the time. The neck had a 24.75 inch scale length and a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. The headstock design was also unique, with a pointed shape and the Gibson logo placed at an angle
The Marauder was equipped with a combination of single-coil and humbucker pickups, providing a wide range of tonal options. It had a humbucker pickup in the neck position, a single-coil pickup in the bridge position.
Despite its unique features, the Marauder did not gain significant popularity during its initial production run. It was only in production for a few years, from 1975 to 1980. The limited availability and lack of market demand led to its discontinuation.
Over the years, the Gibson Marauder gained a cult following among collectors and enthusiasts due to its rarity and distinctive design. Its limited production run and unique features have made it a sought-after instrument among guitar collectors.
This Marauder is from the first production year of 1975, it has a few bumps and bruises but overall very clean for an instrument of this age. The neck is nice and unblemished, there is some buckle rash on the back, and the cherry finish is fading perfectly to give that good old vintage Gibson feel.
The guitar is very resonant acoustically and quite articulate. Plugged in it really kicks with plenty of tonal options across the two pickup varieties.
A cult-classic guitar from the first year of their production - this little beauty packs some punch, a must see!
