Danelectro was founded by Nathan “Nat” Daniel in 1947. Throughout the late 1940s, the company produced amplifiers for Sears, Roebuck and Company and Montgomery Ward, usually with the retailers brand on them.
In 1954, Danelectro started producing the Danelectro lines of solidbody electric guitars and amplifiers. The company was also contracted to make guitars and amplifiers that were branded not with the Danelectro name, but with the names of various store brands, such as Silvertone (Sears) and Airline (Montgomery Ward).
Later Danelectro manufactured hollow-bodied guitars, which were constructed from Masonite and plywood to save costs and increase production speed, and which were distinguished by Silvertone’s maroon vinyl covering, and Danelectro’s light tweed covering.
The concentric stacked tone/volume knobs were used on the two-pickup models of both series, as well as the “lipstick-tube” pickups, which placed the entire pick-up mechanism into spare lipstick tubes. Danelectro’s goal was to produce no-frills guitars of reasonably good tone at low cost – which they did admirably.

The 12-String Danelectro DC59 12 Electric Guitar captures the jangly sounds of the '60s with a double-cutaway body made of laminated wood and two lipstick pickups. Modelled after the classic original 59DC, the guitar's "bottle" headstock is elongated to accommodate 12 sealed tuners.
An improved fixed bridge is fully adjustable. The 59 vintage look includes details like a gloss finish, seal-shaped pickguard, and textured tape binding on the sides. This one has a nice setup with nice low action for easy playability.
There's a reason you see these things in professional studios everywhere - for those occasions when you need that 12-string sound, only a real 12-string delivers, and these Danelectros play better and stay in tune better than guitars 5x their price. Plus the pickups sound great.
This quality 12 string was bought new less than two years ago and presents in as new condition. In researching this guitar we regularly came across messages from Australian music shops such as this - “Due to pandemic related global production issues, Danelectro guitars will not be available in Australia again until late 2022 at the earliest. If you would like to place your name on the wait list please contact us.”
You don’t have to spend huge bucks for a big, authentic 12 string sound. If you need that unique 12 sound for a recording or special application, this Dano DC59 12 is the absolute best bang-for-buck solution.
A big bonus with this one is its Mono Electric Sleeve gig bag. This is a top quality soft case in new condition, worth $200 on its own.
