Alembic
Alembic Orion 5-String Bass - USA 1999
Pickup currently unavailable
Here we have a superbly rare Flametop Alembic Orion bass from the late 90’s. This is a seriously high-quality bass, built completely by hand from start to finish by Alembic in Santa Rosa, California.
The premium mahogany body features a stunning flamed maple top with an accent veneer. All the hardware is custom solid brass, most notably the ‘bird shape’ tailpiece and Alembic‑Gotoh machine heads. The set-neck is made from 5‑piece maple with 4 walnut pinstripes and is finished in satin. The dual truss rod is a helpful feature, both work effectively and the neck is straight. The fretboard is ebony and has a 24th fret width of 2.93”. The solid brass height-adjustable nut has a width of 1.875”. The scale length is 34”.
Two active Alembic MXY56 pickups bring the Alembic tone to the Orion. A simple but effective 2-band EQ with bass and treble controls that cut and boost provide flexibility of tone. By cutting treble and bass, the mids are more present. The volume and pan provide control over the pickups. The electronics cavity is shielded with a silver conductive paint.
There is some light general wear including a small chip at the top of the headstock and very slight indentations around the body. Standard tarnishing on the hardware. Very good condition for its age.
