This is one of the incredibly rare “1st 46” American Vintage '58 Telecasters in sunburst built as a special run by Fender USA in 2012. The 1st 46 series was created when Fender revamped their product lines in 2012. As a celebration of the updated range, the first 46 guitars of each vintage reissue model were handcrafted to custom shop quality levels, given a unique “1st 46” neck plate and sent randomly to different dealers throughout the world.
This one was one of very few that landed in Australia.

“The American Vintage Series has long presented some of Fender´s best selling guitars. Our early-´80s introduction, in fact, was one of the first signs that Fender was "back" as the CBS era ended.
Today, Fender has boldly cleared the slate to make way for a fresh American Vintage series with new features, new specs and the most meticulous level of vintage accuracy yet.
Rather than just replacing the previous models with different ones, we´ve completely and comprehensively re-imagined the entire vintage-reissue concept-restoring original tooling dies, voicing new pickups, reformulating vintage colors and more-based on actual vintage guitars we tracked down to make sure we had it right.
We did the work, and it shows, because there´s pure tonal magic in each new American Vintage instrument.
1958 was an important year for the Telecaster because that´s when slimmer necks started appearing on the instrument, and when (in early-year models) string-through bridges with solid-steel saddles first showed up, magnifying the guitar´s prized signature twang.
The American Vintage ´58 Telecaster harkens back to early 1958, when the Telecaster graduated from its original U-shaped neck profile (a real handful), to a still-large but more comfortable D-shape for its maple neck.
Other spot-on early ´58 touches are here too, such as a lightweight ash body, staggered bridge pickup pole magnets, solid steel barrel bridge saddles, a single-ply white pickguard, top-hat switch tip, flat-top knurled aluminium chrome control knobs and more.”

This 58 AVRI Tele also features Fender’s Flash-Coat Lacquer Finish. The term flash-coat lacquer refers specifically to the quickly applied thin and final “flash” of topcoat lacquer applied to most American Vintage instruments. The composition and method of application for this finish layer lets an instrument “breathe” with a more natural resonance, and imparts a more authentically vintage appearance.
This is a magnificent American Vintage Reissue Tele, with a build quality that is on par with today's Custom Shop guitars. The look, feel and tone are top notch by any standard. The pickups are bright, snappy and toneful in a typical vintage Tele kinda way.
This gorgeous, super lightweight Tele remains in virtually flawless condition. It could easily pass for a new instrument, but we will be conservative and call it 'near mint'.
If you are looking for a fine guitar in immaculate order and built to a high, almost CS spec without the CS price tag, this AVRI 58 Tele is sure to please.
Comes in its original Fender tweed case, also in near new condition.
