The Gibson SG is a rock icon. The Gibson Custom Les Paul SG Standard M VOS takes you back to the first model year of this legendary solid body electric guitar.
In 1961, the Gibson Les Paul was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns making the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul himself did not actually like it and he asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the "SG" which was short for "solid guitar".
Gibson Custom paid just as much attention to this guitar's electronics as they did to its aesthetics. Every part of its internal signal path was designed to deliver dead-on SG tone. Of course, it's next to impossible to find genuine '50s PAFs (even for Gibson). Instead, the Les Paul SG Standard Reissue VOS sports a pair of Gibson's Burstbucker humbuckers.
Comfort and playability were two of Gibson's primary concerns when they were designing this 1961 Les Paul SG Standard Reissue VOS. This guitar's fast, 1960 SlimTaper neck profile fits comfortably in your hand. The rosewood fingerboard is buffed to silky smoothness. The 'M' in the guitars model name stands for the Maestro vibrato tailpiece, ordained with the delightful Gibson engraving.
Gibson Custom's Vintage Original Sheen finish option comes standard on Custom models. The VOS finish package includes lightly aged parts that imparts an authentic vintage patina.

There have been no changes to this guitar since leaving the Gibson factory. It is set up beautifully with a fast, low action and pretty much plays itself. It is light and resonant even without amplification. And that natural resonance just bursts into sonic bloom when you plug it in.
