The Gibson SG is a rock icon. The Gibson Custom 1961 Les Paul SG Standard Reissue takes you back to the first model year of this legendary solid body electric guitar.

In 1961, the Gibson Les Paul was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns making the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul himself did not actually like it and he asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the "SG" which was short for "solid guitar".

Gibson Custom paid just as much attention to this guitar's electronics as they did to its aesthetics. Every part of its internal signal path was designed to deliver dead-on 1961 SG tone. Of course, it's next to impossible to find genuine '50s PAFs (even for Gibson). Instead, the 1961 Les Paul SG Standard Reissue VOS sports a pair of Gibson's Custombucker Alnico III unpotted humbuckers. The Custombucker is the most historically accurate PAF copy ever.

Comfort and playability were two of Gibson's primary concerns when they were designing this 1961 Les Paul SG Standard Reissue VOS. This guitar's fast, 1960 SlimTaper neck profile fits comfortably in your hand. The rosewood fingerboard is buffed to silky smoothness and the frets are dressed to perfection using a Plek Pro machine for optimized playability. Typically reserved for top-dollar custom guitars, this process levels the frets with pinpoint precision, providing you with the most playable fretboard you're likely to own.

Gibson Custom's Vintage Original Sheen finish option comes standard on Custom Shop Reissue models. The finish package includes lightly aged parts that imparts an authentic vintage patina.

This guitar was bought new by its one owner in 2020 and has never been out of the house. It presents in perfect as new condition with no changes, modifications or issues of any kind.

The finish on this one is a more translucent take of Gibson’s famed Vintage Cherry colour. It is slightly lighter than others we have seen, and the beautiful grain of the solid mahogany body shows through the finish with a subtle glow we have not seen on other SGs.

It is set up beautifully with a fast, low action and pretty much plays itself. It is light and resonant even without amplification. And that natural resonance just bursts into sonic bloom when you plug it in.
