The Gibson SG was introduced in 1961 as a complete replacement for the Les Paul. The new design was thought to be a more modern solid body guitar, with sleek bevelled edges and two sharp cutaways. Starting in 1985, Gibson began to reissue the original SG from the era when it was still referred to the Les Paul. This model is mostly distinguished by its use of the original smaller pickguard, input jack on the top of the guitar, and a slightly different neck joint than later versions.
The SG Standard '61 guitar captures the essence of the groundbreaking SG of 1961 with the sonic characteristics that made this model a legend. With white fingerboard binding on a solid rosewood fingerboard and traditional trapezoid inlays on the SlimTaper profile neck, it's as comfortable to play as it is easy to look at. The powerful, expressive tone is driven by a pair of Gibson's humbuckers that are faithful recreations of the popular late-era PAF pickups.

This Gibson SG ’61 Reissue is based on the physical specs of that year. But there are actually some technical differences – the stop tailpiece was not apparently used in that year, and the neck joint tenon size is improved compared to the original. That’s a good thing! It dates to June 1988 and was built at the Gibson Nashville plant.
This guitar is light, super comfortable, responsive, resonant, and plays cleanly up and down the neck. This Gibson SG ’61 Reissue in Heritage Cherry is in good shape, with a few marks and bruises from life on the road, and some pick swirling evident. Frets have approximately 30% wear. The finish is developing a deep glow and natural patina which looks great.
Comes in a road case in good condition.
