Gretsch
Gretsch 6134 White Penguin - Japan 1994
Pickup currently unavailable
The White Penguin made its debut in the 1950s as part of Gretsch's professional line of guitars. At the time, Gretsch was already gaining a reputation for producing high-quality instruments, especially in the jazz and country music scenes.
The White Penguin was immediately recognisable for its stunning white finish, which set it apart from the more traditional sunburst and natural finishes of the era. The use of gold hardware, including the Bigsby vibrato tailpiece and other appointments, contributed to its distinctive and stylish appearance.
Gretsch White Penguins were not mass-produced like some other Gretsch models. It was, and continues to be, a more exclusive and sought-after guitar due to its unique features and limited availability.
This particular White Penguin is a Japanese made reissue built in 1994 prior to Fender's purchase of the company. Known for its combination of the flashy-ness of the White Falcon and the sleeky style of the Duo Jet, this white penguin is a real head turner.
This Gretsch is in great condition with very little wear - there is one section of the binding that has come away on the back between the two bouts but all in all a remarkably clean guitar. The back of the headstock looks to have received some touch up paint as there is a faint line of paint along the bottom/back of the headstock. Originally we thought it may be due to repair, but after looking in the the truss rod cavity, it seems that the headstock is still in original 'intact' position.
Its super fun to play, with a wide variety of tones to choose from. A rare and unique bird that are hard to come by - book a time to check this thing out!
