SOLD - Ibanez Silver Series P/J Bass - Japan 1978

SOLD
For sale here is a great ‘Lawsuit Era’ Ibanez Silver Series P/J bass guitar dating from March 1978. Why P/J? This incarnation of the Ibanez Silver Series bass incorporates a Fender Jazz bass style neck with block inlays, with a Fender Precision style body and an additional bridge pickup like in the Fender Jazz basses. This combination of the more symmetrical shape of the precision bass body, with the added feature of the extra pickup in the bridge make for a very practical, attractive and versatile instrument.
Made in Japan at their Matsumoto factory - it is no secret that Ibanez were ‘ahead of the game’ with the high-quality guitars and basses in they were producing in 1970s – no wonder Fender wanted to sue them!
Belonging to the current owner since the mid 90s, this bass presents well and is in good condition. There is ageing to the chrome hardware, with a nice patina to the blonde finish. Wear to the paint is indicative of an instrument that has been well loved over the last 44 years. The pickguard is a custom made brushed stainless steel (they came originally with black plastic) which was installed sometime before the bass was purchased over 20 years ago. The front pickup is believed to be a DiMarzio, with the bridge pickup being stock. The maple neck is smooth and straight with a low action and very easy to play right up to the 20th fret.
The pickups are well balanced, with the bridge pickup adding a nice clarity and punch to the Precision bass style front pickup. There is a master pickup selector, master volume, master tone and a phase inverting switch if you really want to get funky!
This bass comes with its original hard case. This is a great playing vintage instrument with a ton of mojo, interesting history and an attractive price. Email us or call if you’d like to know more.
