The Rickenbacker 4001 was manufactured by Rickenbacker as a two-pickup "deluxe" version of their first production bass, the single-pickup model 4000. This famed design, created by noted luthier Roger Rossmeisl, was manufactured between 1961 and 1981, when it was replaced by an updated version dubbed the Rickenbacker 4003.
The iconic upper bout and headstock silhouettes of the Rickenbacker 4003 are the most salient characteristics of the 'crested-wave' body shape. The 4003 features a neck-through construction, a full-wood body, gloss coated fretboard, twin truss rods, triangle inlays, two pickups, two volume and two tone controls, selector switch, and wiring for Rick-O-Sound (standard after 1971).
This left-handed model is in good condition, it has been well-played – and finished in the Rickenbacker famous Fireglo. There is a little player wear on this one from years of gigging – with a few small chips and dents around the body but nothing to fuss about.
Low action & killer tone ensure this beast will live on in the hands of its next owner. Slender profile maple & walnut neck with nicely aged cream binding & black side-dots. Beautiful rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl 'shark tooth' inlays. Frets show some light wear but have plenty of life in them. Open-back nickel tuners are in perfect working condition.
