Vintage Fender Deluxe Reverb 1 x 12" Combo - USA 1977
Pickup currently unavailable
Since its inception in the early 1960s the Fender Deluxe Reverb has remained the ideal recording and performing amp. Small, light and moderately powered, it produced big tube tone, with world-class Fender reverb and vibrato effects. For countless guitarists ever since, the Deluxe Reverb has been the go-to amp for that classic Fender sound.
The Deluxe Reverb 1×12″ combo has for decades been one of the most popular of all Fender amps, and its popularity is still growing as the demand for low wattage tube amps increases. The combination of size, weight and performance makes the Deluxe Reverb a true road warrior on gigs and practice.
The Deluxe Reverb is a small/medium-sized amp with an ability to deliver both sparkling clean tones and low wattage breakup at 22W and relatively small transformers (power and output).
It has found its way into more recording studios, clubs and bars than any other Fender amp. It is just powerful enough to cut through in a band with a drummer and, unlike some bigger amps, it will reach its sweet spot at a more reasonable volume.
It has the typical Blackface 60’s sparkle with a scooped clean sound just like the bigger Fender brothers, just with more smooth breakup, sag and compression.
Both the Deluxe Reverb and Princeton Reverb “survived” the CBS Silverface periods with minor changes. Many people consider the Silverface amps just as sonically good as the blackface models. Being almost a blackface amp with a new faceplate, the Silverface models have become popular value-for-the-money amps.
The circuit never changed much for Deluxe Reverbs and can be easily converted, though the tonal differences are minimal at best and you don’t really have to change them to Blackface specs.
Collectors hunt the Blackface models for their rarity, and players hunt the Silverface for their quality and price. And the 70s Silverface models are renowned for being amazingly reliable, which is not always the case with vintage amps.
This one is from 1977, and it is in fabulous condition. It has been regularly serviced by vintage amp guru, Martin Kell. Many have been given a “Blackface” treatment which means significant changes to the circuit, some attempts more successful than others.
This Deluxe Reverb is set up for 6L6 valves that are in place, and the speaker is a nice upgrade to an Eminence Legend 12”.
The silver grille cloth with blue highlights is in perfect condition, as is the black tolex covering – no rips & tears – amazing condition for a 46-year-old amp.
At some point it has had the power transformer replaced to a Hammond and a Schumacher output transformer installed.
This is a great sounding amp – simply one of the best 70s Deluxes we’ve listed. It is in excellent condition.
They are the most in-demand Fender model we regularly list – many working players today are downsizing and this is the perfect compact amp – just right in size, volume and fabulous Fender tone.
