Vintage Fender Esprit - Japan 1984
Pickup currently unavailable
Here is a 1984 Fender Esprit in sunburst, a remarkable piece of Fender history, representing the brand's foray into high-end, boutique-style guitars in the 1980s. Part of the short-lived Fender Master Series, the Esprit was designed to blend Gibson-like elegance with Fender’s precision, offering a versatile, semi-solid guitar with premium appointments. Its striking sunburst finish highlights a beautifully crafted body, delivering timeless style and sophistication.
Robben Ford's association with the Fender Esprit played a significant role in elevating the guitar's profile. He adopted the Esprit early in his career, valuing its versatility for his diverse playing style that spans blues, jazz, and rock. Ford’s use of the instrument was so influential that it led Fender to create the Robben Ford Signature Model, designed specifically to meet his tonal and ergonomic preferences. His connection to the Esprit cemented its reputation as a versatile and premium instrument.
This particular Esprit has been thoughtfully upgraded while retaining its original spirit. It features a Faber ABR-1 bridge and posts for improved resonance and sustain, and the tuners now sport sleek ebony buttons, with the originals included in the case. The replacement Gibson '57 Classic humbuckers provide a warm, vintage-inspired tone, enhancing the guitar's already versatile sonic range. The Finetune tailpiece and replacement knobs (originals also included) ensure precision and customisation while honouring the guitar's original design ethos.
In excellent condition for its age, this Esprit is super clean and functions perfectly. Only very slight buckle rash and swirling from pick wear. The frets show minimal wear, and all electronics operate smoothly. With its unique blend of Fender innovation and classic styling, this Esprit is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Fender’s boutique history.
