Vintage Gibson Les Paul Custom - USA 1972

Like the Les Paul Standard, the Les Paul Custom was replaced with the SG body style at the end of 1960. The original Les Paul and Les Paul Custom were not brought back until 1968. Upon its reintroduction, the Les Paul Custom differed from those of the '50s in number of ways - the headstock angle was reduced from 17 degrees to 14 degrees and the neck tenon was shorter. Starting in late 1969, the Custom also adopted a multi-ply body construction with a Maple top like the Les Standard, where the original Les Paul Custom used an all-Mahogany body. Other changes include the introduction of a neck volute and a 'Made in USA' stamp on the back of the headstock. 

This Les Paul Custom has a solid mahogany "sandwich" body with 3-piece maple top with multi-bound top & back. The 3-piece mahogany neck small volute and cream binding & tortoise side-dots. Ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl block inlays. Multi-bound headstock with mother of pearl split diamond inlays and Gibson logo.

This guitar was bought by its current owner in 1972 from Cord Musical Instruments and he has the original receipt to prove it! It has been well looked after and played-in beautifully. This LP Custom is completely factory original, the one owner hasn't changed a thing on this guitar other than the strings!

There is the odd dent or scratch on the body but very minimal wear for a guitar of this vintage. There is some buckle rash evident on the back, the neck is clean and a joy to play. The frets have considerable wear, so a refret will be on the horizon for the future owner of this beauty. The gold hardware has tarnished nicely, the original pickups and wiring work as they should and sound huge. The original pickup covers come with the guitar in the case.
