Vintage Vox Foundation Bass Solid State Head & Cab - UK 1967
Pickup currently unavailable
The Vox Foundation Bass was introduced in the mid-1960s as part of Vox’s push into solid-state amplification. Designed as a more compact alternative to the massive Super Foundation Bass stack, this amp was built to provide warm, full-bodied low-end with enough power to hold its own in live settings. Though best known for their guitar amplifiers, Vox’s bass amps earned a loyal following for their smooth, deep response and distinctive British tone.
This 1967 Vox Foundation Bass Solid State head and cab is in excellent condition for its age, a rare find in Australia, and is functioning perfectly. It retains all of its original components and delivers that classic punchy, vintage bass tone, making it a fantastic piece for both collectors and players looking for something unique.
The Foundation Bass is known for its thick, round lows and clear mids, making it an excellent choice for vintage-style rock, blues, and even early prog sounds. While it was designed for bass, its rich harmonic character has also made it popular with guitarists and even keyboard players looking for a warm, slightly compressed vintage tone.
The solid-state preamp and transistor power section give it tight bass response and a natural, tube-like warmth that works beautifully with flatwound strings and old-school bass tones. Whether played clean or pushed into mild overdrive, this amp has a deep, powerful character that makes it a true sleeper in the world of vintage bass rigs.
Though not as famous as its AC-30 sibling, the Foundation Bass was used by several British Invasion-era and early prog players, including The Beatles (Paul McCartney used various Vox bass rigs), The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, and Pink Floyd. The tight, punchy low end and natural compression made it a favourite for bands that needed to balance clarity with warmth in a live setting.
At Premier Guitars, we love seeing rare vintage amplifiers in top working order, and this 1967 Vox Foundation Bass is exactly that. Not only is it an incredible piece of Vox history, but it’s also a killer-sounding amp that still holds up today. Whether you’re a collector, a studio player, or a gigging bassist looking for a unique vintage rig, this Vox Foundation Bass is a rare and exciting find.
