This Yamaha was ahead of its time, and perfect for the player who wanted an array of classic rock tones with a versatility and reliability rarely seen in the “big brand” equivalents from the same era.
The guitar features a pair of vintage style high gain humbuckers with split coil options, and these rich and roaring pickups offer articulate bark and detail, engineered for tight distortion characteristics.
Santana fans will know that Carlos switched out of Gibson & into a Yamaha SG Series instrument in the late 70s and stuck with it for years. Other name players who used the SG Series guitars include Trevor Horn, Al DiMeola, Phil Manzanera, Bob Marley and Stuart Adamson (Big Country).
With killer good looks and equipped with a fabulous pair of pickups, this Yamaha SG 800S has a big beefy sound with sustain for days.
No changes, modifications, repairs or surprises. It is in original condition and presents in very good shape. A few light marks here and there, mainly on the back, but nothing significant.
The metal parts show very little tarnishing, and everything works as it should. Neck is straight, truss rod adjusts properly, frets show no wear, and the tuners are solid. Action is low and fast.
This is a well crafted instrument boasting quality components & fine workmanship. No wonder the Yamaha SG series guitars were aptly nicknamed the "Les Paul Killers" of the era.
Comes in a quality Gretsch hard case in excellent condition.
